My name is Al. In a few short years I went from a married, freedom-loving, makeup artist, party-girl to a still married, pregnant housewife/stay-at-home mom to a toddler. Adjusting to my new life has taken me some time, and I am still trying to find ways to navigate through my new roles. 'Keeping My Cool' is a blog about me trying to manage nap times, grocery lists, potty training, and mommy-meltdowns, all the while still trying to stay fashionable, fun, and above all, cool.

Crackle Junkie Looks Forward to Being Cold.
That's right. I admit it. I'm addicted to Crackle. Some know it by its street name, Shatter. All I know is that I love it and I need it in EVERY color!!!! If you are confused, I am talking about Shatter/Crackle Nail Polish. I believe OPI came out with it first and now you can find all kinds of brands and colors out there. Its a 'crackling' top coat polish you apply over a contrasting color and it looks FABULOUS (Hence the addiction). I bought a black one first and now I have white, and pink crackle. What I love about it is, that it looks uber cool, in my opinion, and the color combinations are endless.
Check out the video on Opi's website...it shows the magic of Shatter for you Crackle Virgins... go to http://www.opi.com/ and click on the Shatter image to see the video. Press play and be amazed.
Now, on to other topics....
One of the best things about being half way through summer is looking forward to FALL FASHION!!! Yipiee! Chic, cozy sweaters with amazing boots and deep rich colors... love it! Although the summers in Edmonton are just a fleeting moment in time, I'm still excited for fall (and I'll bitch and moan like everyone else in this city when fall is here and I'm wondering where summer went...).
Some of you may not know, but I sell Avon since I don't have a real job. LOL. Mostly I sell Avon to myself, but hey, I try. Anyway, in about a month's time there will be the most amazing handbag for sale and I am soooooooo pumped! It is, get this, GREEN SUEDE! How amazing is that? Anyone who knows me, knows how I feel about the color green (LOVE). And suede? Dude, I am all over it!
After thinking about Fall and clothes, I decided to troll around on http://www.style.com/ for an eternity and found some amazing stuff. Number One amazing thing I found out was that VERSACE IS DOING AN H&M COLLECTION THIS FALL! *GASP!* I need to find the dates for this launch stat.
Hiding my Junkie Identity while simultaneously showing off my beautiful addiction! Pa-Zow! |
Seriously?!?!?! What's not to love about CRACKLE??? |

Number two amazing stuff I found, was the uber cute Star Dresses at Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2011 RTW. I first saw one of the dresses on Britney Spears on the Harper's Bazaar cover back in March (which she looks amazing in)
The collection is a 50-50 mix of 80s Madonna/Menswear inspired looks and Star Dresses. But there's just something so cute about these darn stars all over the dresses... I love it!
Amazing Thing number Three that I found, was that not only were the clothes at Victoria Beckham beautiful, but the BOOTS! Oh My! I LOVE how they are so tall and kind of loose up top and how there is no leg showing on all of the looks.
Random Topic:
I saw this on my banana this evening and was intrigued:
I thought perhaps this was the address for a 'naughty' site... Bananas After "Dark"... hmmm.
Nope. Just recipes, and tips on how to grill a banana. That sounds kind of gross, but this recipe sounds GOOD (maybe when I am not pregnant anymore I will celebrate with one of these...):
Did I really just say that I would celebrate not being pregnant with a Dirty Banana????? I think I've been sniffing too much Crackle...

RIP Amy Winehouse
So I know this is already 'old news' in today's impatient multimedia age, but I was just googling some pics of her, and you know what? I'm quite sad about it. Well, I'm not sure sad is the word, but it's such a waste. She was ONLY 27. And talented. And not only young and talented, but she had such an opportunity to have a super long career, and now its all buried with her scraggly, drug-infested, junkie body. Waste.
I'm not completely opposed to the occasional drug imbiber, although, those days for me ended in my twenties. But if you are responsible and do it occasionally, then okay, it might not be my cup of tea but whatever, to each their own. BUUUUUUUT, when it takes over you, its such a supreme WASTE! I just can't think of a better word. It wastes your time, your youth, your looks, your LIFE. Blah.
Anyway, on to Ms. Winehouse....
For all those who hated her hairstyle, I've got to say that it didn't really bother me. LOL. I actually kind of like it. I'm a fan of big hair in general and hers was definatley big, and she had a lot of it. Sometimes it got a little out of hand, but other times it was stellar. And I like how her style showed her love of the 60s in her own twist. Here are a few pictures I got off Google that I think she looks really good in:
Now, some things that I did not like about her look include:
1. Her tattoos were on the ugly and jail-ish side
2. How super gross and skinny she got
3. Those ugly cheap satin slippers she used to wear out
4. That ugly hanging braided belt she always wore
Ewwwww. |
By the way, no word of a lie, I used to wear my eyeliner EXACTLY like that in Grade 11. One dude used to call it my 'horns'. :)

Mommy Meltdowns and Pretty Toes...
Evening Y'all,
Well I got back from camping on sunday night. I was exhausted, but it was an awesome time as usual. Me and the girls have been doing an All Girls Camping trip since 1998!!! This was year 13... So crazy. It's always so fun because its 2 days of no men, no makeup, no phone calls, no tv, no appointments, NOTHING but dirty talk, Oprah moments, gossiping, immature laughing, etc, etc, etc. So even though the weather was not ideal, it was still a great time. I seriously have the best friends. XOXOXOX to my Falun HF Ladies!! Love you bitches!
We went to Pigeon Lake, and they had a little Farmer's Market going on, and I bought a really nice pink Chalk Turquoise bracelet.
Apparantley, Chalk Turquoise is supposed to promote spiritual attunement, enhance meditation and intuition, and dispel negative energy. It also strenghtens the meridians of the body and is supposed to benefit gout. Hmm. Well if I ever get gout, I will definatley accesorize it with my cute pink bracelet!
As for today, today was one of those my-life-mega-sucks days. It started out pretty good. Me and Po got to sleep in (which is always much appreciated when you have kids...), and then since it was kinda rainy, we decided to meet a friend and her kids at Home Outfitters. Well, once we're there, Po is super excited and running all over the store, where I have to keep running after him, and and he wouldn't listen so I was starting to get annoyed. Then to add to my annoyance, my friend's kids (which, bless them, were just being regular kids) kept asking me:
"Aaaaaal, what are you going to buy?"
"Aaaaal, are you going to put Apollo in a shopping cart?"
"Aaaaaal, where are you going to find a shopping cart?"
"Aaaaaal, what if you can't find a shopping cart?"
ARRRRRRGH! All these 50 million questions while I am trying to run after my non-listening kid, and trying to look around at the lamps that are on sale! From there, we hit another store and then the library, which proved to be more of the same kind of stuff. By the time Po and I got home it was almost 5pm. This is where my day all went to shit.
Because I had already been on my feet all day, my legs and my nether regions were already really sore. Because my first pregnancy stretched out all my insides, this second baby is sitting super low on the inside. I pretty much feel like the baby is just inside my vadge. Anyhoo, when I get overtired, it feels like I am holding a cantalope inside my vagina. Yeah.
So I pull a stool over to the sink so that I can sit down while I peel the potatoes for dinner. Of course, Apollo thinks this is cool and wants a stool pulled over for him too. So he's getting all frustrated and annoyed trying to push one over for himself, so I GET UP and move it for him. I get the cheese from the fridge. I sit down. He asks for some cheese. I GET UP and give him some. I sit down and keep peeling. I look at him and he's smeared his cream cheese wedge in the palm of his hand and dropped half of it on the floor. I GET UP and clean it. Finally get the potatoes into the oven. Now its time to fry the chicken. I grab a bowl from the cupboard and it drops and shatters all over the floor. I am suprised because, A) its a Corell, and they aren't supposed to break, and B) its shattered into a million, trillion, tiny, itsy bitsy shards and peices. I remove Po from the kitchen and go to the basement to retrieve the vaccum. Of course, my shadow is following me, nipping on my heels. I am trying to clean up the mess and I have to repeat myself a million times to tell my kid to stay out of the kitchen, don't touch the vaccum, etc. Mess is finally cleaned up, and I get the chicken out of the fridge. Po asks me for some juice. There is no juice made. Faaaaack. So I make some friggin juice, and go back to the chicken. As I start to rinse the chicken, I piss my fucking pants. Damn cantalope! Putting pressure on my bladder! Anyways, this is when the full-out meltdown begins, crying and all.
All I am trying to do is get dinner done so that I can sit down and relax. That is all that I want. But it seems impossible, which just makes me cry harder. And of course, while all this is happening, my hubby is working late, so I don't have his help. Sooooo, I go upstairs to change, and then Po tells me he has to poop. Awesome, that he is telling me, but this ensures I am kept upstairs and away from my chicken duties for at least another 10 minutes. When he is done, and I am trying to cajoule him for 10 more minutes to come over to me so I can get a diaper on him, I start to cry again because I realize that soon I will have TWO children.
What in the fuck am I going to do then?????????? It's like a horror movie.
At least the cry got out all of my frustration and I was able to finish my chicken. Dinner turned out pretty good too suprisingly... LOL.
On another more cheerful note, remember that pic I posted in my last blog? It was the cute nail design I found on another blog? Well last night I gave myself a pedi and did my toes SUPER CUUUUUUTE! The girl in the blog called hers Vintage Roses, but I think I'll call mine Vintage Bedsheets....

I hearted-out my blisters so my feet wouldn't look all wart-y and nasty. But aren't my toes so cute??? |
It was super easy to do, and I just used regular polish. I pretty much followed the directions on the other girl's blog. Thanks Danussa! As always, because my shadow was watching me take a picture of my feet, he posed his and wanted me to take one of his too. :)

Cute and Casual Summer Look or Trailer Park Pregnant Teenage Ho???
So this is the outfit I put together today for my trip to Costco. At first I thought it looked kind of Western-y cute and summer, but upon looking at this picture, mmmmmmmmm, I'm not too sure. Its a little Pregnant tramp-ish somehow. Is it the boots? I'm not sure. What do you think?
My fave part of this outfit is definitely my Le Sportsac Bag! I bought it in Vegas a couple of months ago and I am still completely enamored with it! It's of course, made from the classic Le Sportsac nylon which is so EASY to clean, and it doesn't show dirt, and it is super durable (in other words, perfect for moms), buuuuuuuut the part I love about it is, that the nylon is printed to look like a Mexican poncho! Ahhhh! Love! Hello? Here's a closer pic:
Check out their website... they have tons of different options for which bag shape you like matched up with which fabric design you like... etc. etc.

Action Packed July....so far.
This is my first blog entry and I thought I'd fill y'all in on my July thus far...
It's been a busy one.
I can not believe that we've been married for SEVEN years! Holy shit! That's so crazy to me. Kev's mom babysat Po, and we were able to go out and enjoy a nice LEISURELY dinner at Earl's, and then we saw Transformers 3. Both dinner and movie were great. Movie dragged on a little in the Chicago scene, but I liked it. I think I have a bit of a rob-the-cradle-crush on Shia LaBoeuf. :)
We're laughing because Kevin stuck his finger up my ass right before the timer snapped the picture. Perv. LOL
July 15-17- We headed out to Jasper for a wedding.
Kev was a groomsman for a friend's wedding this past weekend in Jasper. It was actually our first ever road trip with Apollo and he's almost 2! He did awesome on the 4 hour drive! I was a little worried about that. Anyways, we stayed at Jasper Park Lodge which seem like quaint, rustic, casual cabins, which they are, but they are also a part of the Fairmont Hotel chain so that means that they were expensive as shit too. Lol. The room was nice but very small. The bed was AMAZING! It was so high and soft and fluffy... *sigh* like sleeping on a cloud. Loved it. The food was also uber amazing, but also UBER expensive. The wedding was Beautiful. The ceremony was overlooking Lake Beauvert and the mountains, and the reception had the most extravagant and delish buffet ever. All in all, the trip was great, but it was also SUPER tiring. Since Kev was on G-man duties the whole time, I was on mom duty the whole time also. And since we were somewhere new and exciting, by evening Po was all overtired and hyper and wouldn't sit still. I literally CHASED him around the entire night of the reception. Pregnant and in heels half the night, it was not fun.
But I must say, Jasper and all of its natural beauty was truly awe inspiring. I felt super relaxed and rejuvenated just from spending some time in such amazing natural beauty.
It's been a busy one.
July 1st, Canada Day. Woke up and decided to dye the front of my hair yellow. Loved it immediately. Kevin surprised Apollo and I and took us to a mini carnival at a mall parking lot. At first I was a little annoyed at having someone else plan my day and I didn't even know what it was we were doing. I think since becoming a parent, I've become a bit of a control freak with my time, which is lame cuz I'd like to think of myself as spontaneous. Anyway, once I relaxed, it was really fun. And once I let my control freakiness go, I thought it was super cute of Kev to plan such a fun day. Apollo LOVED the rides. Like mother, like son I suppose. :)
July 3rd- 7th Wedding Anniversary!I can not believe that we've been married for SEVEN years! Holy shit! That's so crazy to me. While Kevin was on Groomsman duties, me and Po loved nature off a little. :) |
Po and his new girlfriend. They kissed on the lips a million times this weekend! I think he fell for her because the rollers in her hair make her look like a Tomliboo from "In the Night Garden". LOL |
Now as for the remainder of this month, i have the 13th Annual All Girls Camping Trip this weekend, Capital Ex starts, and Kev's 38(!!!!!!) birthday ends the month off. Send me some energy vibes so that my preggo ass can keep up with all this..... ;)
